We visited Wat Long Khoun during our visit vĩ đại Chomphet. The entrance fee, which is pretty standard across Laos, is 10 000 kip which is between $1 and $2 Aussie Dollars at the going exchange rate. The Wat is sánh very peaceful and relaxing and is a well kept and a lovely place vĩ đại visit. Just be wary not vĩ đại leave anything on bikes unattended as the little kids try and pickpocket a bit, anything from lollies vĩ đại mobiles.

Within the Chompet District, very short peaceful Walk and you will reach this beautiful peaceful Temple with the beautiful view of Luang Prabang from the other side of the river.
No tourist at all, only the locals who took care of this temple and few monks resting.
Very calm and serene environment.

The road vĩ đại get vĩ đại the two Wats (Chomphet and Long Khoun) was sánh dirty that it removes all the pleasure and interest for visiting the temple. And by dirty I tự not mean muddy (thats normal in the countryside) I mean that it was full of rubish. You are literally walking on plastic bags and bottles. The mekong is quite dirty also during the raining season.

I am not sure why people describe this as a very nice temple. In reality is falling apart. It is in very poor condition. Different from most other temples in Luang Prabang, you have vĩ đại pay a small fee. The people and the royal family tự not care about it.
It is sad because of its historical value; the king used vĩ đại meditate here for three days before being crowned at Wat Xieng Thong at the peninsula.

The temple is located at the west ngân hàng. You have vĩ đại cross the Mekong river by ferry. then you have vĩ đại walk trough a relatively narrow street in a poor area of town. It is safe. Almost nobody visits this site. It may take 30 minutes by walking vĩ đại arrive vĩ đại this temple. It has some frescoes that are poorly preserved. Honestly, I tự not recommend visiting it unless you tự not have anything else vĩ đại tự.

It was my last day in the đô thị. I decided vĩ đại take a xế hộp ferry for the crossing across the river and reached the opposite side at 5 PM. I had no idea what was in store for má. I met a tuk tuk
driver called Mr Choi who took má. He said he would take má vĩ đại the nearest temple which was some distance away. I think it must be at least 3 km.

We went up a dirt road and then turned right going through a few small villages. It was interesting vĩ đại see the families gather together having dinner at this early hour . We then came into a forest area and suddenly saw the temple. It is small but unique In its historical value. Walking round it near the river ngân hàng, we saw a large statue of a Buddha under a green Naga as an umbrella for Him.
Across the river ngân hàng, we saw the landmark of the large number of steps sánh this meant that we had actually traversed a considerable area facing the museum going thru up vĩ đại the steps.
This temple may not be famous, may not be large but it has an unusual serenity vĩ đại it. Definitely dont miss. Its far too long vĩ đại walk sánh take the tuk tuk.

Before the dissolution of the monarchy the monastery had important ties with the royal family of Luang Prabang and the new king-designate spend three days there in ceremonial bathing and meditative retreat before returning across the Mekong for his formal coronation.
The monastery was later abandoned and fell into disrepair, before being restored in the 1990 mid-1990s using traditional materials and techniques.

This temple has a view over Luang Prabang. The view is nice but most of the town is hidden by the trees. Besides that, the place has an younger-than-it-looks temple badly in need of restoration. It has some different frescoes/wall painting that is from other places in town. Otherwise this is a very peaceful place nice for a short stop.

This is a very well preserved Wat with beautiful paintings on the walls. On the other side of the river, which means no noisy Chinese or back-packers.
